A Word of Encouragement

2016 has proved to be one of the most difficult years in my life. From the loss of good friends to my mother’s battle with cancer. The year was hard. It brought much pain. I lost friendships due to unknown reasons. The mark of the first semester of this year was tears, pain, and uncertainty. In the middle of it all, God took me to a place where healing, reassurance, strength and a new sense of purpose arose. He took me to a “small” church in Baton Rough, Louisiana. I hate warm weather, and he took me to a place…

Spiritual Purge

I was reading my Bible when I came across the Story of King Asa. Even though I’ve read it before many times, the Holy Spirit highlighted two verses. I just couldn’t take them out of my mind. Every single time that God wants to deal with me in a very personal and profound way, he would stir my spirit with one passage from Scripture. 2 Chronicles presents us with the Story of King Asa. His account is compelling as the Bible portrays him as a man who loved God and acted accordingly. He did what many wouldn’t dare. He stood…

Devotion

fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer… Rom. 12:11b-12 NASB   My time in Baton Rouge finally came to its end. God put me in a loving and caring congregation. The Vineyard…

Listening

This would be my third week in America. One might think that the process of speaking your second language will turn on automatically. Well, it is not that simple. Our brain holds the ability to identify a foreign language and classify it as known or unknown. Generally speaking, it doesn’t take me too long to switch from Spanish to English. My ears and my eyes recognize the langue immediately. The…

Full Force

It was around early December when I got a phone call. They couldn’t find her. We called everyone we knew, without a positive outcome. As the days passed it became evident that she was gone. One month later a body was recovered. The press, friends, and people from Church were not informed of whose that body was. Just the family and a couple of us knew that it was her. DNA tests were performed on the corpse. It was almost two months after she was reported missing that the results of the DNA tests were released to the public. The week the…
